This is Charlie who came for his newborn photography session at 10 days old. The session had been bought for the family as a gift from their close friend. What could make a better gift to a new parent than images of their newborn to treasure for lifetime?! People should definitely do this more often.
The session was held in my home studio in Stevenage, Hertfordshire. This was the first official newborn session after completing the newborn photography workshop in January. It was also my first newborn session using studio lighting, so it was a good chance for me to test my new skills out. Looking back on the images, overall I am very happy with how they turned out. I could definitely have done with having the light slightly further round to lighten up Charlie’s little face that bit better, but I am still very happy with this handsome little mans images.
Charlie was born early and came to the session at 10 days old which meant he was perfect to pose! I can not stress enough how important it is to get them at this stage as they curl up and pose so easily. As soon as baby starts hitting 2 weeks old, especially if they were born overdue, they can become very difficult to pose as they no longer want to curl up for these sleepy poses and instead enjoy a good stretch out. Charlie seemed to enjoy being wrapped up which was great as I got to test out a couple of new techniques I learnt at the workshop. I always ask parents to pick 2/3 colours to be used in their session, I then style and customize the session to their preference. In this case Charlie’s mum chose blues and greens.
Here are a few of my favourite images from the session.
